Soya chunks Masala

A very simple recipe. This makes a good combination for chapatis/rice. I love soya chunks so much that I always end up finishing the whole curry ;). Coming to the nutrition aspect, soy chunks are rich in proteins, iron and calcium, which makes this an excellent meat substitute for vegetarians.

What's in it:

  • Soya chunk granules : 2 cups
  • Onion : 1 big chopped
  • Tomato : 1 big chopped
  • Ginger garlic paste : 2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder : 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 2 tsp
  • Garam masala : 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds : 1 tsp
  • Cloves : 2-3 nos.
  • Cinnamon : 1 stick
  • Coriander leaves : to garnish
  • Salt : to taste

Let's do it!

To cook soya chunks:

  1. Wash the soya chunks well, drain them. Boil water in a vessel with some salt in it.
  2. Add these soya chunks to it; let it get cooked well.
  3. Once cooked, drain and keep aside. When it is cooled, squeeze the water out of the soya chunks.

For the gravy:

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick kadai. Temper some fennel seeds, cloves and cinnamon.
  2. Add onions, saute well till golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste, saute till the raw smell leaves.
  4. Now add coriander powder, garam masala and chilli powder, salt to this.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and blend everything well.
  6. Now the cooked soya chunks can go in. Stir well to blend in the masalas.
  7. Check salt level and add more if needed.
  8. Switch off the stove and garnish with some chopped corainder leaves.
  9. Enjoy with chapatis/rice !
