Meen Mappas

A Kerala style fish curry with the goodness of kokum and coconut milk...

Serves : 4

Ingredients :

  • Fish ( I used Salmon) : 10-12 pieces
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste : 1 tsp
  • Shallots : 10 nos.
  • Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder : 2 tbsp
  • Tomato : 1 medium chopped
  • Kokum/ kudampuli : 2 pieces 
  • Thin coconut milk : 2 cups
  • Thick coconut milk : 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 



Cook it up !

  1. Heat oil in a nonstick kadai ( or manchatti/ earthen pot if available).
  2. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add ginger garlic paste and saute.
  3. Add the shallots with turmeric powder, coriander powder, fenugreek powder and chilli powder.
  4. When it is cooked, add chopped tomatoes, saute well.
  5. Pour the thin coconut milk to this. Add kokum pieces/ kudampuli to this.
  6. When it is boiling, add in the fish pieces. Cover and cook till the fish is done.
  7. Finally add the thick coconut milk, Wait for 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
  8. Serve hot with rice. This is a very tangy and spicy fish curry.
