Butter Cake



This is the first ever cake I baked. The best cake for beginners. The cake was very soft and moist inside and it had a very crunchy crust. Easy to cook, yummy to eat !


Butter Cake Recipe :

Recipe adapted from here. ( I halved the original recipe since we are only 3!)




Serves : 4

What's in it :

  • All purpose flour - 1 1/4 cups
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp
  • Baking Soda - 1/4 tsp 
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Butter - 1/2 cup
  • Powdered sugar - 1 1/4 cups
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • Eggs - 2 nos.
  • Buttermilk - 2 tbsp + 2 tsp
  • Milk - 1/3 cup





Let's do it ! 

  1. Preheat oven to 320 F.
  2. Sieve all the dry ingredients together and keep aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat together butter, sugar and vanilla extract till it turns creamy.
  4. Now add eggs one by one into the mixture, beat well.
  5. Add buttermilk and mix for 10 seconds.
  6. Add flour little by little, alternating with milk, till both are exhausted, ending with flour.
  7. Pour the batter into a pan greased with butter and dusted with all purpose flour. Level it with a spoon.
  8. Bake in an oven for 20-25 minutes. Mine got done in exactly 20 minutes. Prick it with a fork to test the doneness; if the fork comes out clean, you are done!
  9. Wait for 10 minutes before inverting the cake onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice and enjoy with a hot cup of coffee/tea !
