Salmon curry

A very tasty fish curry, cooked in the Kerala style. This is very easy to make and can be had with plain rice, puttu, dosa, etc.

What's in it:

  • Salmon cut into pieces : 500 g
  • Onion : 1 large finely chopped
  • Tomato : 1 medium finely chopped
  • Fish masala ( I used Eastern brand) : 2 tsp
  • Green chillies : 2 slit ones
  • Coriander powder : 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Kokum / Kudam puli - 2 medium pieces
  • Garlic paste : 1 tsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Coriander leaves : to garnish

To grind:

  • Coconut shredded : 1/2 cup
  • Fennel seeds : 1 tsp

Let's do it !

  1. Clean and cut the fish into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai/ manchatti (clay pot) . Add the chopped onions to it.
  3. Saute the onions well till they are golden brown in color.
  4. Now add garlic paste to this and saute till raw smell leaves.
  5. Add fish masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder and green chillies. Saute well.
  6. Add tomato and kokum pieces, stir well so that everything forms to a paste.
  7. Add 1 cup of water and salmon pieces to it.
  8. Close the pot and cook till the fish gets cooked.
  9. Grind the coconut and fennel seeds to a fine paste. Add this to the boiling gravy.
  10. Let it boil for some more time. Switch off the flame and garnish with some coriander leaves.
  11. Close and keep aside. Let it stand for some 1-2 hours. It gets more tastier as it sits for more time.
