Tapioca Masala

Found this long and clean tapioca sitting on the shelf in the nearby Indian store, I wanted to give this a try. So here is the outcome. It was yummy with a dash of onion-green chilli chutney !

Serves : 4

What's in it:

  • Tapioca/Kappa : 500 gms cubed
  • Dried red chillies : 4-5 crushed
  • Garlic pods : 5-6 nos. crushed
  • Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves : 1 sprig
  • Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Coconut oil

Let's do it !

  1. Peel and wash the tapioca thoroughly. Cut it into cubes.
  2. Boil water in a large vessel, add the tapioca to this and add salt and turmeric powder to this.
  3. Let it cook for 15 minutes, take care not to mash the cubes.
  4. Drain water and keep aside when cooked.
  5. Crush garlic and red chillies using a mortar and pestle/ pulse in your small jar of mixer grinder.
  6. In a pan, add coconut oil, when hot, temper mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  7. Add the garlic and red chillies , saute for 2 minutes.
  8. Now add in the cooked tapioca and mix everything well. Garnish with some curry leaves.
  9. Serve hot with shallot-green chilli chutney.
