Kadai Paneer

I eat Paneer raw. Yes. I eat it up raw. That's the love I have towards Paneer. So, if anyone wants to make Paneer for me, you can just cut it into cubes and give me in a bowl. And I would be one happy girl ( lady ? :O ) . But since I do not want myself to upset my stomach, I decided to cook something. A simple recipe. No cream, no puree-ing, no grinding. Just saute, saute, saute. This recipe impressed me, so here it is, from my kitchen, my version. A no-sweat Kadai paneer recipe.

Ingredients :

  • Paneer cubed/cut into triangles : 1 cup [Keep the cut paneer pieces immersed in hot water till using.]
  • Coriander seeds : 1 tsp
  • Onion : 1 large, cubed
  • Tomato : 2 medium, chopped finely
  • Capsicum (any color) : 3/4 cup, cubed
  • Ginger garlic paste : 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder : 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder : a pinch
  • Red chilli powder : 1 1/2 tsp [I used Kashmiri chilli powder]
  • Kasoori methi : 1 tsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Water : 1/2 cup
  • Oil : 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves : to garnish

Method :

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add the coriander seeds.
  2. Next, add the ginger garlic paste, saute.
  3. Add the onion cubes, saute well till transparent.
  4. Now add the chopped tomatoes. Let them get mushy.
  5. Add in the garam masala, coriander powder, chili powder, turmeric powder and mix well.
  6. Add the capsicum, give a quick stir for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Add the paneer cubes by draining them, mix well. Add kasuri methi.
  8. Now add the water, mix, cover the pan and let it cook.
  9. Once the water is drained and paneer is cooked, switch off the flame.
  10. Garnish with corainder leaves. Serve hot with rotis/ pulaos/ as such.

  1. I made something quite similar last night but it was made in sticky cast-iron pan to get a fine crumbled texture :) Lovely one... This is my all time favorite dish...

  7. Lovely punch flavors especially the role of spices in the dish. Over here we use more of tofu rather than paneer. Certainly a good try still I will opt for tofu.
